With its rich diversity, Rawdon is the largest municipality in the Matawinie RCM. It was founded by Irish squatters, followed by Scots, English, Loyalists and French Canadians. By the 1840s, French speakers had become the majority. Slavic ethnic communities arrived in the 1920s: Russians, Poles, Ukrainians and others have since settled here, making it a singular village, an ethnic mosaic second only to Montreal. To highlight this fact, the municipality has created a multicultural public square. The village also celebrates Multiculturalism Day. It is one of the region’s premier holiday resorts.
