Whether you're a homeowner or a tenant, here are a few tips to help you save money and live through this moment as serenely as possible.

As is customary, July 1 often rhymes with moving house. Whether you’re a homeowner or a tenant, here are a few tips to help you save money and live through this moment as serenely as possible.

1. Compare quotes

If you’re using a moving company, get different quotes so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

2. Choose your date correctly

Consider choosing another date and moving outside the busy season. Your wallet will thank you.

3. Recover cardboard boxes

Did you know that many businesses offer free cardboard boxes? A great way to save money and be eco-responsible by recycling your boxes. Above all, don’t wait until the last minute to pack.

4. Sort it out

No need to fill your new address with useless trinkets. Take the opportunity to sort out and sell what you no longer use.

5. Ask for help

Don’t hesitate to ask your loved ones for help if you need it. There’s nothing like their support (and their arms) to make a move a success. Don’t forget to reward them with a meal or a nice cold beer.

6. Change your address everywhere

Remember to change your address for all important organizations: Canada Post, Ministère du Revenu du Québec, Canada Revenue Agency, Régie de l’assurance-maladie, your financial and credit institution, Hydro-Québec, Gaz Métropolitain, cable company, Internet provider, home and auto insurance company, accountant or notary, employer.

Enjoy your move!
